Propagate the value of a setting from one project to all other projects
Before this you might want to read:
Share your Settings With Your Other Projects
You may sometimes want to propagate the value of any setting from the current project you are in the context of to other projects that you personally have access to. This will help you save time in setting up the same value (preferences) in other projects and will also help you maintain consistency across your projects.
Please remember that the values of settings & preferences are specific to each project. You will have to ensure that you set up your preferences for every project that you have access to.
You can accomplish this in two ways.
- By going to each project context (by toggling the project selector drop down to a different project each time), accessing the 'My Project Settings' screen for that project in context, setting the same values and saving your preferences.
- Setting your preferences in the context of a specific project and using the 'Share your Settings With Your Projects' feature and propagating the values from that project to your other projects.
Obviously, the second approach is more efficient, especially if you want to use the same settings in all your projects. If your settings are, for whatever reason, need to be different for each project, the first approach is more efficient. You don't have to choose one approach from between the two approaches. You can combine them as well. For example, you can use the second approach to get the values propagated to all projects and then go to the specific project where you may want to deviate and override (change) the value only for the project.
You need permission to edit the settings values in your target projects
It is important for you to remember that you will be able to propagate the values of a setting from one project context to other projects that you have access to ONLY if the project leads of those target projects have given you permission to personalize the value for the setting. If you have such a permission for a subset of the projects then you will be able to propagate the value of a setting from one project to only that subset of projects.
Steps that you should follow to propagate the value of one or more settings to your other projects
To initiate the process of propagation the value of one or more settings from the current project context to your other projects, you should click on the icon that looks like shown below, for each setting that you want to propagate, and once you are done (you must) click 'Save' to get the propagation completed.
When you click on the icon shown above, you would see a green checkmark superimposed on that icon which indicated that it has been selected for propagation to your other projects. The icon acts like a toggle . You click once to select it for propagation. You click it again to deselect it from the scope of propagation.
After this you might want to read:
- Settings & Preferences on the General tab
- Settings & Preferences on the Test Runs & Results tab
- Settings & Preferences on the Test Scripts tab
- Settings & Preferences on the Analytics tab
- Settings & Preferences on the Run Definitions tab
- Settings & Preferences on the User-Defined Variables tab
- As a Project Lead, propagate the value of a setting to other users of the same project
