Release Notes - 22 Dec 2021

New Features available for you to benefit from:
  • QaSCRIBE productivity improvements and features
(Note that new version in Firefox is available immediately but it may take couple of days to reflect in Chrome as the new version is "in review" with Google)

This release offers you a rich set of features that will increase your productivity in authoring new test scripts and to maintain previously developed test scripts:

When you are in the "recording mode", you no longer have to right click over the UI element within your application under test (AUT) that is currently loaded within your local browser tab to activate/access the QaSCRIBE contextual menu. As soon as you start into the "recording" from the create/edit test script screen, if you switch to the browser tab within which your AUT is loaded, you will see the QaSCRIBE component in a collapsed mode at the bottom center of your browser tab.

Please do note that at this point, you will NOT able to access the QaSCRIBE context menu by right clicking on any UI element within the browser tab containing your AUT. Also, please do note that your QasSCRIBE version will automatically upgrade to the latest enhanced version being rolled out as part of this release. If it has not upgraded itself, please reach out to Worksoft SaaS Support right away.

This component has 4 distinct controls:

    1. The right most control allows you to collapse or expand the context menu. If you have not selected a specific UI element within your AUT, expanding will not show you any actions to choose from. If you have selected an UI element from your AUT (see below), you will see the actions to choose from.
    2. The second from the last control allow you to 'Select' an UI element from your AUT. By default, this icon is in disabled state and appears in the grey color. You cannot select a UI element when this icon is disabled. When you click on this icon, it becomes enabled and turns blue indicating that you are ready to select an UI element that you want to capture the actions as part of the test script you are creating or editing.

Once the UI element selection mode is activated, as you navigate within your AUT, you will see a light yellow shaded area around the UI elements. Once you get to the UI element that you want to capture actions for, just click on the element.

Clicking on the UI element will set the context of the QaSCRIBE context menu and the collapsed QaSCRIBE context menu automatically expands to show all the actions that are available for you to choose from. The UI element that you selected also gets highlighted in light green color. Stated differently, the green shaded UI element provides a visual cue to you about the UI element that you have selected for which the actions are showing within the QaSCRIBE context menu.

At this point, you are free to move the QaSCIBE component (overlay) to any position within your browser tab containing your AUT screen. You should move the overlay component especially if this component is covering the selected UI element within your AUT.

Once the list of actions for you to choose from are loaded into the QaSCRIBE context menu, as always, just click on the + icon to extreme right of the action for it to be recorded into the test script you are creating or editing. You can sequentially click on the + icon for more than one action if you want more than one action performed on the selected UI element.

Sometimes you may want to just record all the locators for a UI element into the target field of a new test instruction within the test script you are creating or editing but with no action (command) auto-selected, and then you may want to select the action from the command dropdown within the test instruction control of the create/edit test script screen. So far, you were unable to do that. With this release, you can easily accomplish that by clicking on '+ icon to the extreme right of the the first item in the actions list of the QaSCRIBE actions listing that is captioned "Instruction w/ Locators Only". Doing so inserts a new test instruction in the script being recorded with its target populated with the locators of the UI element and with the command left blank.

    3. The third (left) from the last control within the QaSCRIBE controls allows you to switch (jump) to the browser tab containing the create/edit test script screen within your Worksoft SaaS domain. Please note that you so far had to click on the little "Qa"-within-a-circle icon on the top right hand side of the browser tab containing your AUT. With this release, even that control is incorporated into the QaSCRIBE component that shows by default at the bottom center of the AUT-containing browser tab for your convenience.

    4. The fourth (left) from the last control within the QaSCRIBE controls allows you to stop/restart the recording of test instructions into the create/edit test script screen. If recording is currently in progress, you will see a red-square-with-a-white-dot icon which when clicked will stop the recording. If the recording is currently stopped, then you will see a a green-square-with-a-white-dot icon which when clicked will restart the recording.

  • Test Cycles module home enhancement that lists the total count of test runs scheduled/executed within a test cycle with drill-down capability

You will now be able to see the total count of test runs scheduled/executed within a test cycle printed vertically in the last column of each row of the test cycles listing.

If you want to see the list of test runs that correspond to the count being shown, you just click on the total or the sub-totals within the hover menu. This will take you to the test runs module and show the list of test runs that match the total or the sub-totals shown in the last cell of a test cycle row in the test cycle listing screen.

  • Enhanced edit Run Definition module

You will now be able to exit Run Definition edit screen without having to navigate to Bind Data or Testing Context tabs for the Run Definition. New button "Save & Exit" is now made available if you chose not to validate Run Definition after making changes to it. Existing option "Continue" is now renamed to "Save & Validate".
