Create Data Filter from Data File page

Creating Data Filter

You can create a data filter from data file page or data filters home. In this article you will see how to use data file page (while in view page) for creating a data filter.

Steps to follow:
  • Open the Data File you intend to use the filter, in "View" mode (Filter can be viewed and created in Data File view mode only). The text field shown in the below picture can be used to quickly filter the rows you are looking for (this acts as a text search) and copy the row numbers that are filtered.
  • Click on "Filter" tab to create a filter and apply it on the data file. You will see multiple options to work, with the initial state being the first option among the three (given below)
    1. You can choose to Define a New Data Filter and not save it
    2. You can choose to Defined a New Data Filter and Save it &
    3. You can choose to open an existing Data Filter
  • While using the option "Define a New Data Filter (and not save it)"
    • Choose one or more "Attribute"(s), Operator, Variable (options) and Value to build the filter
    • Click on "Show Filtered Data" button to apply the filter and view corresponding records
  • System switches to the "Data" tab to show filtered records from the data file. The icon show in the figure below can be used to copy row numbers of the filtered records (numbers corresponding to the unfiltered data file), which then can be used as part of the maintenance of the "Application Test Driver Inputs" Data Files directly from the "Test Runs" and "Testing Contexts" screens.
  • To cancel the mode i.e. to show all records from the data file again, you can switch to Filter tab and click on the "Display unfiltered Data File" icon (shown in below figure)
  • You can also choose to use an existing filter for testing it on the Data File. To use an existing filter, select the second option and then select the required data filter from the drop down.
  • If you wish to make any changes/adjustments to the Data Filter, you can click on "Edit Data Filters" button and complete changes before saving them.
If for any reason you want to skip making any changes and use existing Data File, you can select "Define a New Filter" to cancel edit data filter mode.
