This is an extremely powerful feature that will save you lot of time in creating Testing Contexts for previously-existing Run Definitions and Scenarios in a project.

Why would I need this feature?

Let us assume that when you started automating the test cases within a new Project, you are expected to use the automated tests within that project to certify your application (AUT) against a certain number of browser/operating system/device combinations. Over time, as you increase the coverage within your automated tests, you would end up creating more and more Run Definitions and Scenarios within your project.

In this context, if you are asked by your business users or management to additionally certify all automated tests (Run Definitions and Scenarios) on new browsers/operating systems/devices,  you will end up creating new Testing Platforms within a previously existing Testing Platform Group. At that point, this feature will come in very handy for you to take the new Testing Platform you created and get Testing Contexts created in all the Run Definitions and Scenarios that existed as of that point (for each of the project environments ). This will save you lot of effort.

Steps to get Testing Contexts auto-created for previously existing Run Definitions and Scenarios?

You should follow these instructions:
  • Once you have created (or updated) a Testing Platform within a Testing Platform Group, if you wish to have that platform to be used to get testing contexts automatically created for all previously existing Run Definitions and Scenarios, you can click on the 'Create Testing Contexts for Run Definitions and Scenarios' icon for the appropriate Platform shown on the 'Manage Testing Platforms' screen.

  • On the screen that opens up, select/specify the Cloud Platform and one or more Project Environments
  • Click on 'Create Testing Contexts' button.
  • When prompted for confirmation,  select 'OK' in the confirmation dialog so that the auto-creation of Testing Contexts for one or more Run Definitions and/or Scenarios can proceed.
  • Once the auto-creation of Testing Contexts is completed, you will be shown a summary of the number of run definitions and scenarios for which additional testing contexts have been created and the number of testing contexts that got created, grouped by project environment and Run Definition/Scenario status (WIP/Active).
